Journeys Out of Darkness: A Documentary

Journeys Out of Darkness is a 30-minute documentary that tracks a group of teenagers as they learn to live with the absence of someone they loved. Grief groups at Highmark Caring Place are closed to those outside the group. However, after a series of meetings and negotiations with officials at the organization, I was allowed to be "embedded" into a teen group. The result is an unprecedented and intimate look at how young people deal with loss. Reporting, videography and production for this piece took place over a period eight months.
